Wine Shop Dorset - About Us

OUR STORY

Established in 1978, Wessex Wines has been supplying fine wine in and around Bridport for more than forty years. Under new family ownership since 2019 and now called Selected Grapes, the shop still offers the same excellent value, wide selection and authentic experience.

Fresh from a former life in the hospitality industry, Will and Alex took on the shop with the desire to maintain their connections and friendships within the trade and develop their passion for wine. The combination of Will's former career as an organic grower and his experience in restaurants forges his personal focus in viticulture and wine making.

We keep over 300 varieties in stock, each personally chosen and carefully sourced. We live by the motto “Do one thing well”, so we keep our offering almost exclusively grape-based and in addition to wine, we stock beers, local cider, Sherry, Port, Vin Santo and other after-dinner drops.

We are proud to be part of Bridport’s thriving art and vintage quarter. Historically listed, Unit 88 on St Michael’s Trading estate was a ropewalk in its past life. Where once its length was used for twisting fibre, it now makes a perfect cellar.

Stop by, speak to Will, Alex or Joe and leave with something delicious to drink.
